Christmas Events

Otterbourne Brass Band

Yes, we do have a Brass Band in Otterbourne, and a very successful one at that.  Otterbourne Brass are based at Otterbourne Village Hall and rehearse most Thursday and Sunday evenings. During the Summer months they perform a number of concerts here in the village, with all monies being raised used to support the band and provide instruments and band equipment.

Once again the Otterbourne Brass Band Christmas Concert of Carols and Christmas Music, was held in Otterbourne Village Hall, in early December this year, giving two performances and both were performed to a near capacity audience.

John Pitman representing the Otterbourne Village Hall Committee introduced the Conductor of this very popular Brass Band, Dareth Pritchard. Over thirty very talented musicians gathered on the stage to perform an arrangement of superb music, with each number receiving thunderous applause at the end.

John Pitman in thanking the band said “these concerts were a highlight in the year of the Village Hall and made a great start to the Christmas activities in the Village of Otterbourne.

The Concerts are organised by Mary Davis jointly with the Otterbourne Village Hall Committee and Friends and the Otterbourne Brass, with the proceeds from the Concerts being shared equally between both groups.

Carols around the Christmas Tree

Once again a very pleasant evening was had by all on the Tuesday prior to Christmas, as in previous years the Chamberlayne Suite was full to capacity with Villagers out to enjoy some Carol Singing and to listen to individual members of the Village Drama Group, who sang their own chosen carol or recital. This year we even had a visit from Father Christmas which added greatly to the Festivities, the service was brought to a close with a Prayer from Rev.William and a rendition of “We Wish You A Merry Christmas”.  During the Evening a collection was taken on behalf of “Piam Brown Children’s Cancer Ward” this produced a princely sum of £246-00.

Villagers then tucked into a variety of hot snacks and mulled wine, a brilliant way to ease everybody into the Christmas season.
